In 1827 Bremerhaven was founded as a small port city connected to Bremen. Today it continues its own development and sea-oriented development. Major attractions in the city include the German Maritime Museum, transforming the old harbor into an outdoor museum, the German Emigration Center, which is the largest emigration-themed museum in Europe, and the Klimahaus exhibition center, which architecturally resembles a boat. Bremerhaven is usually rainy, with a warm and mild climate. The Bremerhaven Airport is quite small and only operates regional flights; it is located 7.6 km southwest of the city.
