Kashi is one of the cities of China and takes its name from the nephrite. Kashi is a historical oasis city which has borders with Kashi Kuna in the west, Artux in the north, Peyziwat in the east and Yengisar in the south. In addition, the city is located in the west of the Taklamakan Desert and on the foothills of the Tian Shan. It is located 290 meters above sea level. Its population mainly consists of Muslims and the crowded ethic groups in the city are known as the Uyghurs.

Cotton production is the main source of income in this city whose economy has depended on agriculture since the First Age. The market that is open on Sundays plays an important role in the economy of the city. During the cultural revolution that began in China in 1960, the majority of the mosques and prayer rooms in the city were destroyed. Among the surviving historical structures, there are the Id Kah Mosque, Afaq Khoja Mosque and Tomb, Tomb of Yusuf Khass Hajib and Tomb of Mahmud al-Kashgari. In the city, winters are cold and arid.
