About Yoshkar Ola
The city of Yoshkar Ola is located in the Mari El Republic of the Russian Federation. In addition to being the capital city of the republic, it is a city that shows a population growth with the amount of immigration it receives. According to 2002 data, the city has a population of approximately 280 thousand people. It has an airport and is situated on the railway line between Moscow and Kazan. In the Mari language Yoshkar Ola means “red city” and in the coat of arms of Yoshkar Ola, a fallow type deer is used.
In the city there are many higher education institutions. These include Mari State University, Volga State University of Technology and Interregional Open Social Institute. In the city a temperate continental climate is experienced. In the winter, long, cold and snowy weather is seen, while during the summer months, warm and occasional rain is experienced. In January, the temperatures can drop to around -15 degrees, while in summer the temperatures can go up to 35 degrees.
