Umea is a city built on a forested site in the north-east of Sweden. Known for its educational success, it is also known as Sweden's most important medical and industrial city. The fire that broke out in 1888 in the city left 2300 people homeless. Birch trees are then being planted to prevent the spread of fires on the boulevards of the rebuilt city. For this reason, the city is called "the city of birch trees". Nowadays, population is increasing every year in the city, which is a fast growing one.
