About Tobruk

Tobruk is a port city in the easternmost point of Libya. The history of the city goes back a long way. It was an agricultural state established with the name Antipyrgus in the ancient Greeks, and later it had a share in maritime trade. The city, which has a natural harbor, was conquered by the Italians and then the British during the Second World War. It is not seen as a safe city today. This strategic city has been an important front of Mustafa Kemal in the Turco-Italian War.

Tobruk made progress with the construction of a port terminal linked by an oil pipeline to the Sarir oil field. This progress stopped when the Libyan Civil War began. The city was damaged both during the Second World War and the Libyan Civil War. Many historical places were damaged or destroyed. The city still has an airport. The Mediterranean climate is effective in Tobruk. Summers are hot and dry, while winters are temperate and rainy.
