Tivat Airport is one of the two international airports operating in Montenegro. While it was opened for the training of military and civil paratroopers in Yugoslavia during the Second World War, it is still hosting parachuting training today. Tivat Airport officially opened in 1957 as a small airport with a small terminal building and runway, which consisted mostly of operating flights to Belgrade, Zagreb and Skopje until 1968. In 1968 a three year renovation works was initiated and during this time the runway, control tower and passenger terminal were completely renewed. Tivat Airport is used by 1 million passengers every year and operates direct flights from 15 cities including London, Moscow, Paris, Frankfurt, Stockholm and Prague.

Tivat is one of the important coastal cities of Montenegro, the South Europe country, and it is located in the south of Montenegro. Considered as a marina city as well, Tivat is the stopping place of many yachts visiting European coasts.

Dubrovnik, a nearby city that is famous with spectacular beaches, is visited by most of the tourists who rent a car in Tivat. Although it is not as busy as Tivat Airport, Podgorica Airport is larger and more modern. In June, July and August, when touristic activities are high, both of the airports are very busy and for the remaining period of time of the year, there are very low air traffic.

You can go to Tivat city center from Podgorica International Airport with a taxi for approximately 70 Euro. As the distance between the airport and city center is very close, transportation takes short time. At the airport, there is no public transportation system, which can take you to the city center.
