About Sintra

Sintra is one of the most important regions of Lisbon, both a most touristic city and the capital of Portuguese. It is mainly known for its monuments in UNESCO World Heritage List. The tourists in Lisbon can easily arrive Sintra by train or other public transportation vehicles. Sintra has a postcard-like view with its cablestone pavements, which many people are fon of, in its narrow streets, and its small houses with oriel windows. You can visit the Sintra National Palace with a guide to get informed about its history, the subject of many legends in Sintra, in which you will find colourful buildings and perfect weather throughout the year. Sintra National Palace is listed among the monuments representing romanticizm movement in UNESCO World Heritage List. Another breathtaking palace in Sintra is Regaleira Palace. This palace was used in 1697 by merchant families and almost looks like its original version though there has been some restaurations since then. Regaleira Palace, with its five floors, has a very large balcony and a spacious garden full of the tunnels.  These underground tunnels attract the tourists the most by enabling them short-time adventures. Apart from the palaces, another must-see monument is Castle of the Moors. This castle was built in the 8. century by the Egyptian Muslums for defensive purposes and was seriously damaged during the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. Some of the archaeological excavations were held in this region to reveal the remains of that period. National Palace is located very close to the Castle of the Moors. There are many one-day tours to Sinatra from Lisbon. Exhibiting dolls from Egyptian period, Toy Museum is also one of the interesting places of the city.
