Schladming is a city located in the southeastern of the Steiermark Province of Austria. In the past, almost all of the city's economy was based on mining. Even today, there is a mine worker on the coat of arms of the city. Today, however, Schladming is one of the most popular tourist destinations.
Almost all winter sports are being performed in Schladming, which hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championship in 2013. Many winter sports events, especially skiing, are organized in this city. Thanks to its geography suitable for mountain biking, climbing, trekking, rafting, archery and many other nature sports, a great number of tourists come to the city every year. For this reason, there are many restaurants, cafes, bistros, bars and shops in Schladming.
In this touristic city where agriculture is still active in the rural regions, village markets are often set up and farmers sell the products they bring from their farms, fields and gardens. It is quite common among tourists coming to the city to visit these markets and buy fresh products. Schladming is also very assertive about its local beer.
Schladming has a cold and rainy climate. In the winter months, with the heavy cold, the amount of rainfall decreases while snowfall increases. In the summer months, the amount of rainfall increases with the temperature.
Schladming does not have its own airport, but it is possible to come to the city by direct transfer from Munich Airport, Salzburg Airport and Vienna Airport.
