About Santo Antao Island
Santo Antao Island is the second largest island in Cape Verde, archipelagic state. The north and south of Santo Antao, one of Africa's largest islands in the Atlantic, is sharply divided by mountains. While traveling between the two sides, one had to reach the mountain roads. Porto Novo, the center of the island, is in the south, and Ponta do Sol, the most important and flat city, is in the north.
Santo Antao Island, the second largest island of Cape Verde, where the roots of football legends such as the famous Portuguese footballers Christiano Ronaldo, Manuel Fernandes and Nani are located, makes its living largely from agriculture and tourism. The main product of the island that produces grains, mangoes, sweet potatoes, sugar cane and bananas is a kind of rum and alcoholic drink called "Grogue". Climbing, nature walks and camping are coming out in the island tourism. The Topo de Coroa Mountain, which is 1900 meters above sea level, is particularly popular among tourists.
There is also an airport in Ponta do Sol, the most important city in the north of the island. Agostinho Neto Airport, which is closed sometimes due to winds, is only open to domestic flights. The airport is located 40 kilometers from Porto Novo, the center of the island.
