Sandton, whose name comes from the combination of two of its suburbs, Sandown and Bryanston, is the richest region of Johannesburg in South Africa. The city is also known as the most important business and financial center of the country. The city which is home to Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the world's twelfth largest and the country's largest stock exchange, best investment institutions of the country, public accountant companies and a large congress center, attracts attention with its glass skyscrapers similar to those in Manhattan. Its streets, which are full of businessmen coming from all over the world for trade purpose and foreign tourists as well as domestic tourists, are commonly preferred for shopping. Nelson Mandela Street expressed as the center of retail and the stores in Sandton City offer many options such as antiques, jewelry and art collections. Most of the time, shopping is a reason to visit Sandton.
Sandton, an important trade city, is also famous for its well-equipped comfortable and luxurious hotels, spas and thermal springs. Nelson Mandela's 6-meter bronze sculpture which is the symbol of the city and Rivonia Farm where Mandela was kept in jail for a while in 1963 are among the places to visit. Sandton Central Park is one of the beautiful places in the city with its sculptures, native trees and solar powered lights. Stage performances are organized at its amphitheater from time to time.
Sandton is also home to the rapid railway link station which has direct connections to OR Tambo International Airport, Pretoria and Johannesburg.
