Roznava, which is the largest city in the Northern Gemer region of Slovakia, has a touristic importance in addition to its traditional characteristics. The city is located on the River Slana, between the Slovak Ore Mountains and the National Park. Roznava, which has been the seat of Roznava Bishopric, is also known for its rich mining history. Approximately 20.000 people live in the city where more than 700 old mines have turned into a tourist destination today.
The center of the city consists of a 15th century medieval square, and the first thing that draws your attention on the square is the Gothic-style cathedral. This fascinating cathedral, which is considered to be the oldest building in Roznava, is also known as the 'golden palace' in the city. The Bishop of Gemer still lives in this palace. The Town Hall built in 1711, City Hospital in Classist style, Franciscan Monastery, which is also an active monastery, and Renaissance Watchtower are among the important historical points on the square. Many of the preserved historical buildings host magnificent works of art dating back to the 15th century. You can get information about the rich mining history of the city in the Mining Museum, which is located on a street connected to the square, and discover different beauties on the streets hosting many historical bourgeois houses.
The city, which has a nature surrounded by forests and mountains, is one of the places to visit in every season of the year. Roznava, which is famous for its natural reserves as well as its historical texture, offers a mysterious atmosphere with its deep caves. The wildlife in its natural parks also attracts attention of its visitors.
Roznava is located 71 kilometers away from Kosice International Airport. You can travel to the city center from the airport by using a bus or taxi. You can also prefer renting a car for a more comfortable travel.
