Ra’anana is a city in the center of the Sharon Plain in the south of Israel’s center. A big part of the city, which is surrounded by Kfar Saba in the east and Herzliya in the west, consists of American, Argentinean and European migrants.
The city is as new as the history of Israel. While the city, which had been founded by a group of Americans as an agricultural settlement in 1920, had 300 residents in 1948, its population is approximately 80 thousand today. Mostly known with the park gardens which are high-tech products and the technological bases of all sizes of international companies, the city seems like the backyard of Tel Aviv. It has been rewarded ‘the most beautiful and cleanest city of the country’ in recent years as it has developed and been administered positively. One of the most prestigious awards the city has received is the ‘Green City’ granted by the World Health Organization in 2005.
Rectangular shaped Ra’anana is a settlement area preferred for its high living standards. It is quite active in terms of cultural and social activities. The Ra’anana Park at the western entrance of the city is one of the most beautiful touristic places the city has. Especially preferred to get rid of the daily chaos and the crowd of Tel Aviv and reached in 15 minutes from the city, the park is not only Ra’anana’s but also Israel’s most beautiful park. This park, where you can find many activity spaces from roller skating areas to gondolas, walking and cycling tracks, is also fulfilling in terms of art. You encounter art works designed as instruments along the 2-kilometer cycling and walking track. If you wish, you can make your own music with these instruments or listen to the sounds they are producing with the wind. The lake in middle of the park belongs to swans and you can play Swan Lake from Tchaikovsky by pressing a button while walking over the bridge. The zoo where you can see 100 different animal species is another color of the park.
The night life of the city is located in the locality of bars and restaurants outside the industrial zone. Its large amphitheater hosts the concerts of the worldwide-known groups and soloists. The closest airport you can land on during your trips to Ra’anana, one of the splendid cities of Israel, is Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. The distance between the airport and the city is approximately 31 kilometers and you can reach the city by taking public transportation vehicles, taxis or renting a car.
