About Poprad
Poprad is located on the foothills of the Tatra Mountains, the most important region for ski tourism and nature tourism of Slovakia. It is also the city where Adolf Burger, the author of the book Operation Bernhard filmed as the Oscar-winning The Counterfeiters, grew up.
In the city close to the border of Poland in the north of the country, heavy assembly and manufacturing industry seen throughout Slovakia are not common. The city which is not developed in terms of industry comes to the forefront with tourism. Located on the foothills of the Tatra Mountains home to more than 1000 endemic plants, natural lakes, valleys, caves and hundreds of different species, the city welcomes hundreds of tourists coming to Tatra for hiking, camping, climbing and skiing.
One of the tourist destinations to be visited in the city is the historical city center Stare Mesto, which is located in almost every historical European city. In addition, St. Egidius Square, St. Egidius Church, St. George Church and Poprad Aqua City are among the other places to be visited. Poprad also hosts the airport with one of the highest elevations in Europe. Poprad Tatry Airport, located 5 kilometers of Poprad, is also 10 kilometers of the cities like Svit, Batizovce, Matejovce and Hozelec which are located around Poprad.
