In 1946, a new airport began to be constructed in Pittsburgh, due to the difficulty that Allegheny County Airport had in meeting the passenger traffic demands in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States of America. When the new airport was opened in 1952, it started to serve under the name of Pittsburgh International Airport. At Pittsburgh International Airport, international flights were started in 1968. In 1987, an expansion and renewal project was started, with a budget of approximately one billion dollars. Although a new complex was opened at the airport in 1992, the old terminal building continued to serve passengers until 1999. Pittsburgh International Airport, is used extensively by commercial and cargo aircrafts, but a part of the airport is also used by the American Air Force. The airport's annual passenger statistics are nearly nine million people.

The West Busway company starts its service at 5:30 o’clock in the morning and its buses departs every 30 minutes until 12 o’clock in the night. Considering traffic, travel from the city centre to the airport with a bus varies from 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Bus departure times vary between weekdays and weekends. The buses usually operate from 05.50 until 00.25.
