About Mersin

Situated on the Mediterranean coast with a population of 1,670,000, Mersin has been a cradle of civilizations thanks to its location and favorable climate throughout history.

Among the natural touristic attractions in this seaside Turkish city are the Ashab al Kahf (Seven Sleepers) Cave, the subject of similar stories in multiple cultures and religions, and the Heaven and Hell Chasms, famous for their stunning depths. Mersin is also interesting for its history depicted in the Anamur Museum, the Mustafa Erim Mersin Museum of Urban History, and the Nusret minelayer-ship. The city is adorned with beautiful beaches. Gastronomy-wise Mersin is most famous for its tantuni (finely minced fried meat and onion wrap), a must-try for meat lovers.

There are road, sea and rail transport to Mersin, and the Mersin Airport will be operational in the coming years. For now, Adana Airport may be used to fly to Mersin. It is advised to stay indoors during the daytime in the summer, when humidity and temperatures often soar. Winters, however, are mild and wet.
