About Mecca

The tourism industry in Saudi Arabia still relies heavily on pilgrimages. During the pilgrimage, Muslims visit the city of Mecca, both one of the world's holiest cities where the Prophet Muhammad was born, and a major pilgrimage destination, visited by over 3 million people annually. You can find direct flights from all over the world to King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, which is one of the largest airports in the world with its special Hajj Terminal.
The weather in Mecca is dry, hot, and mostly affected by the desert climate. During the summer months, heat goes up to 45 °C, while the average temperature is 25 °C in the winter months. The city is very crowded, especially during the pilgrimage period, but it offers lots of sacred places and historical treasures that travelers can visit in every season.
Mecca has many tourist attractions; from 5-star hotels to affordable accommodation facilities and restaurants serving international cuisines. Nevertheless, the most visited place in Mecca is the Masjid al-Haram, the largest and the holiest mosque in Islamic belief. The mosque is visited by millions of people annually and is capable of hosting more than 800,000 prayers simultaneously. The mosque, which also includes the Kaaba and Black Stone (Hijr al-Aswad), is surrounded by the largest hotels and authentic bazaars.
Mina is another worth seeing, holiest, and most impressive place in Mecca. Visited by millions of pilgrims for its “Stoning of the Devil” and sacrificial sites, the valley is surrounded by thousands of air-conditioned tents. Other popular places to visit in Mecca include Mount Arafat, the historical house (now serving as a museum) where the Prophet Muhammad was born, and the Mu'alla Cemetery, in which the tombs of the Prophet Muhammad's relatives and Islamic scholars are located.
You can also attend the guided tour services in Mecca. These tours' routes are including the Cave of Bull in Jabal Thawr, where the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr took refuge, and Al Wahba Crater, a 2-kilometer-long crater in the middle of the desert. Other important destinations you can take via tour services are Zamzam well, Cave of Hira in Jabal an-Nour, famous for its fascinating natural beauties, also known as the Garden of Eden. For shopping, you can visit the local shops in the authentic, labyrinth-like streets of Mecca, or you can go to malls for modern boutiques such as Mecca Commercial Housing Center.
You can arrive at Mecca from every city in Saudi Arabia with direct bus and train services, and the city is 110 kilometers from Jeddah, 450 kilometers from Medina, and 866 kilometers from Riyadh.
