About Lamap
Lamap is a small city on the island of Malekula, which is the second largest island amongst the Vanuatu Islands. Located in the Pacific Ocean, the city has extraordinarily beautiful natural beaches. White beaches stretch along the gorgeous turquoise ocean. A large portion of visitors are diving enthusiasts. The shallow waters encourage snorkeling and doing so offers a colorful underwater world around the city.
Because it is located on the tropical climate belt, Lamap is generally warm year round. In addition, the variety of tropical fruits delight visitors. But the best part about the food in Lamap is that all the food is completely organic, as agriculture and farming was never industrialized in this city. The city is especially famous for its delicious steaks. In fact, if you wish, you can take up to 25 kilograms of meat with you when departing.
The name of the local drink of Lamap, which is widely consumed by local people and can be found in every corner, is kava. Drinking kava is an activity that’s mostly for men, but with the impact of tourism, there are now kava bars in the city center that only accept women. Kava is made from the roots of a plant called piper. Although it does not contain any alcohol, the plant causes some kind of drunkenness due to its sedative effect. If you decide to try it, you should definitely consume it before eating, slowly and in small quantities. Do not mix it with alcohol or consume it on two consecutive days.
In the true tropical paradise of Lamap, you can enjoy both the ocean and the sun. You can also arrange short tours of the sea and the surrounding islands. The capital, Port Vila, is definitely worth at least a day long visit.
