Khao Lak is a city which is located in Phang Nga Province in the south of Thailand. Although the city lost its charm following the tsunami disaster which occurred in 2004, it has managed to recover and is still a popular holiday destination. Khao Lak has a unique natural beauty with its wonderful beaches and fantastic sea. The eastern part of the city is surrounded by natural parks and waterfalls which are under protection. Khao Lak is a favorite location for divers thanks to the Similan and Surin islands located near it. The city welcomes a great number of divers each year. Bang La On is the most touristic area of the city. There are many stores, shops, restaurants, cafes and bars on this area. Bang Niang is the area where the nightlife is very lively. It is also known for the public markets set up every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Khao Lak which is under the influence of the tropical climate has a temperature of 32-34 degrees in the daytime. This value decreases to 22-24 degrees in the nighttime.
In April, heavy monsoon rains start and continue until November. For this reason, the best period to visit the city is between November and March. Tsunami Museum is one of the places to visit in the city. There are also golf courses in Khao Lak. Wind surfing as well as diving is one of the most preferred alternatives for waters sports enthusiasts. There are also a great number of massage saloons in Khao Lak and visitors can enjoy the real massage experience by visiting one of these saloons.
