About Kenana
Located in Sudan's Kurdufan Region, Kenana is a rather small settlement on the eastern shores of the White Nile River. The city, 250 kilometers south of the capital Khartoum, is the home of the Kenana Sugar Factory, one of the biggest players of the country's economy. With a total of 12.000 employees working both in the factories and global offices, the giant company is among the world’s most important and largest sugar factories. Founded in March 1975, started operations five years later, the facility produces 300.000 megatons of sugar a year.
Located in the east, near the fertile lands of the Blue Nile River, Kenana has very favorable conditions for sugar cane production. 100 thousand acres of land is used for this reason in the region. Processed white sugar, which is the most important export item of the country, is exported to Africa, Europe, the Middle East, India and Bangladesh. The city, where step climate dominates, receives limited rainfall throughout the year. Kenana Airport is 1.8 kilometers south of the city.
