Located in the west of Afghanistan, Herat is one of the most important cities in the region with its rich history dating back to the ancient times. Referred as the "wheat warehouse" by the famous historian Heredot, the city has been under the sovereignty of many states throughout history, such as Sasan, Abbasids, Gaznelians and Seljuks.
