The economy of Guanajuato used to be based on mining and agriculture, but factories have been the main economic source in recent years. Guanajuato is built on large green mountainous land and is rich in both plant and animal biodiversity. The trekking tours can be a little though but will be worth the extra effort.

There are many archeological excavation sites in Guanajuato. For those wishing to visit these sites, a program with a local guide is recommended. Guanajuato University building, Union Gardens, Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato, La Valenciana Temple, San Diago Church, and Santuairo de Christo Rey Guanajuato are just some of the places you can visit. You can find local produce in the Hidalgo Market, and even if you are not planning to buy anything this is still a great place to observe the local people and lifestyle. Taking part in one of the tours that takes you several meters deep underground to the old mines will surely be an unforgettable experience. There are also lots of museums with many different themes in Guanajuato that you shouldn’t forget to consider while planning your trip.
