The island has steep cliffs in the entire area except on the south coast and it is located at 105 meters above sea level. Despite being located in the northern latitude, the climate is generally mild due to the warm water current coming from the Gulf of Mexico region. To date the highest temperature value on the island has been 26 degrees, while the lowest temperature value reaches -6 degrees.
Despite the island being treeless, the island is rich in vegetation. There are grass, moss and marshland areas. There are also many bird and special sea bird species. Although the main industrial activity on the island is fishing, also agriculture farming and collecting seabird eggs is common. Those who want to explore the Arctic Circle, there is also a church and a school on Grimsey Island, which attracts the attention of tourists.
