About El jadida

El Jadida, which is also known as the “Portuguese City”, is one of the colorful port cities located on the coast of Atlantic Ocean of Morocco. The city is located 106 km south of Casablanca. The Mazagan region of the city surrounded by Portuguese walls has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.

El Jadida is a popular holiday destination of Morocco with its long beaches. Sidi Bouzid and Haouzia beaches are among the most popular places for surfing. The calm fishing city, which is one of the best places to get away from the crowd and stress of the big cities, attracts attention with its rich history. The star-shaped Mazagan Castle is the first military design of the Renaissance and on one of the streets of the castle, there is a cistern and church with magnificent architecture. Built in 1514 and remaining from the Portuguese period, the cistern will evoke admiration as you observe the reflection of the ceiling architecture on the water. You can take amazing pictures here. This cistern and the Assumption Church (Manueline) belonging to the same period are among the most important historical structures of the city. Both structures reflect the characteristics of the late Gothic architecture and represent a synthesis of Arab and European cultures.

There are five-star hotels and holiday complexes that welcome many guests coming from the Persian Gulf, Europe and beyond. There are large golf courses, casinos, SPAs and entertainment clubs in these facilities. The charm of the city is further enhanced by the International Jawhara Festival organized every year. The festival, which offers a show of about 3500 knights, is becoming more entertaining with the participation of many tourists from all over the world. The city has a colorful atmosphere worth seeing with its local market, cafes, restaurants and fishermen.

El Jadida has a local Mediterranean climate. Since the city receives more rainfall in the winter compared to the summer season, you can take an umbrella with you if you visit the city in this rainy period. The city has train and bus connection with other big cities like Marrakesh and Casablanca. The urban transportation of the city also offers alternatives such as taxi and bus.
