Bled is on the banks of Lake Bled in northwest Slovenia. It' a small city that has a magical atmosphere with the stunning beauty of Lake Bled, which has a small island in the middle. Bled attracts much of Slovenia with its natural beauty and is quite a popular holiday destination.  It’s also a gateway into Triglav National Park, which is one of the most important nature reserves in the country, another reason for why it’s so popular.

You can do various water sports such as skiing, sailing, and canoeing at Lake Bled. It’s possible to swim in the lake when the weather’s warm enough and on very cold winter days you might see people ice-skating on the lake. But what makes Lake Bled so special is the island that's right in the middle. At the very heart of this little lush green island there's a church that you reach by climbing 99 steps, and it’s probably the place that’s the most popular for visitors. Traditionally, the groom carries the bride up these steps and rings the bell of wishes for a happy marriage that will last forever. The best place that offers the most beautiful views of this area is Bled castle. This white castle dates back to 17th century and is open to visitors from 08:00 in the morning to 18:00 in the evening. Iglica Waterfall is also one of the most popular places for tourists. It’s possible to do rock climbing here, other than trekking and enjoying the views. You can have a bit of a different experience by taking part in one of the tours that are organized for the Babji Zob Caves.

The freshwater fish from Lake Bled has a special place in the menus of the local restaurant. It’s also highly recommended and absolutely necessary to try Bled's famous 'kremsnite', which is a type of delicious cream cake.

You can reach Bled via Joze Pucnik Ljubljana International Airport, which is 34 km from the city center. There are shuttle bus services between the airport and the city center. There’s actually a small airport right next to Lake Bled, but it’s only used for local sporting activities.
