About Bingol
Located in Turkey's Eastern Anatolian Region, Bingöl has a population of nearly 265,000. This city is believed to have been continiously settled since the year 2000 B.C. A city with a harsh inland climate, Bingöl has intense winters with an average snow depth of 3 to 4 meters and high temperatures and droughts are seen in summer months. The general vegetation consists of prairies and meadows.
There are historical castles such as the Sebeterias (Saritarius) Castle, Kiğı Castle, and Kral Kızı (King’s Daughter) Castle. Must-sees in the city include the natural wonder Yüzen Ada (Floating Island); Yolçatı Ski Center that revived winter tourism in the city; Çır Waterfall with an awe-inspiring view; and the Kös Thermal Waters which are said to have healing powers. The people of Bingöl are good at making all kinds of meatballs, especially içli köfte (stuffed meatballs). Some of the famous local dishes are Keledoş (mixture of legumes and dried yoghurt), sorina pel (phyllo sheets and yoghurt), çiğ köfte (raw meatballs with bulgur), dolanger (phyllo dessert in syrup), löl (made of flour and yoghurt), and mastuva (hot yoghurt dish with rice).
There are daily flights to the Bingöl Airport. However, accessing the area is harder in the winter because of the mountainous terrain and heavy snowfall. Adaklı, Genç, Kiğı, Solhan, Karlıova, Yedisu, Yaylıdere, and the center of Bingöl constitute its 8 districts.
