About Arviat
Located in the Kitikmeot region of Canada, on the waterfront of the Hudson Gulf, Arviat is a city historically called Tikirajualaaq and Ittaliurvik. According to the estimations of 2011, main indigenous population of Arvivat, which has a population of 2,318 people, is Paallirmiut, but today the community is composed of Ahiarmiut from the inner region and Aivilingmiut Inuits from the coastal regions in the north, besides Paallirmiut.
There is a trading office in the region established with the name of Cape Eskimo (or Tikkerarualuk) in 1992, as well as Hudson's Bay Company for fur trade of polar fox’s in the north of the tree line in the city. This trade office is known as a place where important writings of Paallirmiut are kept. In addition, the Roman Catholic Church in Arviat, built in 1924, attracts attention. There is a semi-arctic climate in this city where an airport (Arviat Airport) is also located.
