Armação dos Búzios in Brazil, which is also called as “Buzios”, is named after the countless sea shells on the magnificent coasts of the peninsula. Armação dos Búzios, an old, small and isolated fishing village, gained its worldwide popularity when it was visited by Brigitte Bardot, who is a famous actress, in 1964.
There are more than 20 beaches sorrounded by the sea currents in this elite town which is located 170 kilometers far from Rio de Janeiro. The total length of the beaches is almost 8 kilometers. While the surfers race by the beaches of the Geribá and Brava viewing the open sea in the east of the town, snorkellers and scuba-divers discover the underwater world on the coast of Ferradura. You can watch the wonderful sunsets of the town from the Tartaruga beach with its calm water resembling a lake and swim with turtles in Praia do Forno.
Whereas the western coasts of the town are prefered by those who want to relax, the top level fun and gourmet restaurants can be found around João Fernandes, Ossos Beach and Rua das Pedras, which is the main road symbolizing the town. You come across a cinema and bars named after the French actress in Rua das Pedras.
The town, where you will witness both the primitive and the modern in amazing harmony, is filled with vacationers coming from all over the world and it is also a place which has preserved its natural beauty so far. The town has a unique architecture and it is not allowed legally to build houses with more than two floors. Besides the beaches, the two Catholic buildings the Church of Sant’Anna and the Sanctuary of Maria Desatadora dos Nós, which you will see in the center, and the dock where transatlantic ships anchor are among the spots the tourists like to take picture of. You come across an awesome ecosystem in which colorful fish, corals and birds live in Serra das Emergências located inside the Atlantic Forests. You can see the whole peninsula with a boat trip.
The period between November and March is the most crowded time of Armação dos Búzios and the town comes to life with beach parties especially in December. And in March, it starts raining. The closest airport to Armação dos Búzios, which has bus links to metropolises, is Cabo Frio International Airport at a distance of 33 km. You can reach the town center from the airport by vehicles such as shuttles in 20 minutes.
