About Akçay
A touristic town in the district of Edremit, Akçay is a located in the Balıkesir province. Akçay has nearly 17,000 inhabitants.
In Akçay, where you can easily observe most of the characteristics of the Mediterranean climate, summer months are hot and clear. In the winter months, on the other hand, a mild and rainy climate prevails. Boasting beaches and coves one more fascinating than the other, Akçay is usually mentioned in connection with Zeytinli, another town of Edremit. As fountains abound in the town, it is also referred to as the water town. Located in the region called Ancient Mysia, where there was settlement in the years B.C., the town has been frequented by many civilizations throughout history. It is on the route Christians used for pilgrimage between Europe and Ephesus. The tourist population has been rising in recent years. It has become a popular destination for domestic tourists particularly in the summer. As a result of that, investments in tourism have increased in the town.
The Koca Seyit Airport in the district of Edremit provides convenient access to Akçay. By car, it is an approximately 6-hour drive from Istanbul.
