About Poznan

Poznan is the industrial and commercial center of Poland and it is the capital city of the Wielkopolska Region. The city was founded on the banks of the Varta River. It is the fifth largest city in the country. The famous Polish poet and writer Adam Mickiewicz, who was an admirer of Istanbul, was born in this city. Poznan is one of the oldest cities in Poland in historical terms. It is even said that Poznan is the first capital of Poland. The tomb of Mieszko I, the first ruler of the country, is located in the Poznan Basilica. With the industrialization as of the 19th century, the city made a huge progress with the establishment of steel and railway factories. The city suffered a great deal of damage during the World War II but recovered in a short time and regained its old strength. Poznan also has a very strategic importance thanks to its being the country's gateway to Europe. It is the first ever trade point between Poland and Germany.

Poznan also has the largest industrial exhibition (fair) area of the country. Although it is seen as an industrial and commercial city at first sight, Poznan is also known for its giant urban parks and lakes where you can see lush green areas. Wielkopolska National Park, Rusalka Lake, Malta Lake and Dabrowskiego Park make up the city's main natural texture. In addition to Stary Browar, where the old brewery was restored and turned into a shopping mall, Old Market Square, Imperial Castle, and Fara Church are vivid examples of traditional tourism heritage. The mini show of two head-butting wooden goats coming out of the clock in the old town hall is particularly interesting for the visitors traveling the city. The cold and temperate climate is effective in Poznan. It has a noticeably rainy atmosphere. Poznan-Lawica Airport, the oldest airport in the country, is located 5 kilometers west of the city.
