Transportation to Osaka Airport from the City Center

Osaka Intl. Airport

If you want to get to Kansai International Airport by means of public transportation, you can take advantage of bus and train options. In addition, you can also benefit from car rental and taxi options. Since the airport was built on an artificial island, it is not yet possible to reach the airport by metro, which provides nearly the whole urban transportation. It takes about 60 minutes to get to the airport by any means of transportation from the city center.

Bus

You can reach the airport by choosing from the bus lines 2,3,5,7 and 11 departing from different parts in the city center. One-way ticket costs 1.500 Japanese Yen.

Train

You can reach the airport very easily by the train that you can take at Namba Railway Station, which is located in the city center. This is also the cheapest way of transportation in the city. Ticket price is 920 Japanese Yen. If you are traveling from a different city by train, you can also benefit from the transfer option to reach the airport.

Shuttle Services

Shuttle services are provided by private companies based on “door to door” service principle. Two different companies provide shuttle service and you need to make a reservation 2 days in advance to take the advantage of this service from both companies. The price you need to pay ranges from 2.000 to 4.000 Japanese Yen per passenger for one-way journey. If you want to benefit from this service on your return journey from the city center to the airport, you can make a reservation before you leave the airport upon your arrival, or you can also ask your hotel to make a reservation for you.

Limousine Bus

If you prefer a more comfortable transportation option, you can rent limousine buses to reach the airport from the central points in Kinki and Shikoku areas. Your hotel can help you about making a reservation for this luxury service.

Hotel Shuttle Services

Although there are a large number of hotels in Osaka, the number of the hotels offering airport shuttle service is very few. You can contact your hotel in advance to find out if they provide this quite comfortable transportation option. Even if your hotel does not offer airport shuttle service, they can help you find some alternatives for transportation to the airport.

Taxi

You can easily get a taxi in the city center, as well as you can ask your hotel to arrange a taxi for you. You can reach the airport very comfortably by taxi in about one hour. The taxi fare costs about 15.000 Japanese Yen. If you want to get a taxi on your own, please keep in mind that the taxi is available if the red light on its windscreen is on.

Rent a car

Although renting a car is not a very popular option for urban transportation in Osaka, you can rent a car if you want to get to the airport by a comfortable means of transportation. You may need to rent a car with a driver since it will be a one-way journey and you will certainly need an international driver's license. The offices of car rental companies are generally located at train stations. Your hotel can also help you with this.

Airport Information

Kansai International Airport, which has gained a worldwide popularity with its construction, is one of the largest airports not only in Japan but also in the world. The airport, which is located on an artificial island built in the middle of Osaka Bay, is connected to the mainland by a bridge.

There are all sorts of services that a passenger can expect at the airport, which offers many facilities such as shopping stores where you can meet all kinds of shopping needs and a variety of eating and drinking places.

The internet service is provided at different points of the airport, some of which are paid and others are free of charge; the places providing this service are like small internet cafés.

Kansai Intl. Airport

Passengers who want to reach Kansai International Airport, 50 kilometers away from Osaka, one of the largest and most developed cities in Japan, can evaluate alternative options such as buses, rental cars, ferries and taxis. Taxis are one of the fastest and easy-to-use means, but they can be costly because the airport is far from many centers. The buses are reasonably priced and are in the service of the passengers during most of the day. If you need to come from Kobe Airport to Kansai International Airport, you can be here shortly by ferry connecting the two airports. Apart from all these fast and convenient vehicles, there are shuttle services and trains among the alternatives you can use to travel from the city center.

Bus

You can easily reach both terminals of the airport by taking a bus from Osaka city center or Nara, Okayama, Wakayama and Kyoto. Some buses only bring their passengers to Terminal 1, while others have access to both terminals. You can purchase your ticket for the journey by bus from the immediate vicinity of the stops in the city center and travel to the airport at very reasonable prices. The biggest disadvantage of buses is that they do not provide the comfort and convenience as the vehicles that provide door-to-door service such as taxi and shuttle services. The cost you will pay for a taxi is high because the airport is located away from city centers. For this reason you can choose buses to travel at an appropriate cost.

Train

From Osaka and many places around the airport, you can travel by train to the airport. It is an economical and easy option to get to the airport by train because of the train station in Terminal 1. But if you need to carry a lot of goods with you, remember that arriving at the stations can be a little challenging. You can purchase your train ticket at stations. Do not forget to keep some local currency for this.

Ferry

Ferries provide transportation between Kansai International Airport and Kobe Airport. After arriving here from Kobe Airport on the opposite shore, if your plane takes off from Terminal 2, you must take the shuttle and travel between terminals with it.

Shuttle

Airport shuttle service is one of the easy and affordable alternatives. If you choose these shuttles for the journey, you will not have difficulties while carrying your suitcases and arriving at the Kansai International Airport at your desired time from wherever you are. The shuttles, with a private driver, take you to the Kansai International Airport terminal gate by picking you up from wherever you are in the city at your desired time of day. In order to use shuttles, you need to call a company that provides this service in your vicinity and make reservations in advance. If you are staying in a city center hotel, you can get help from hotel staff to find a suitable service.

Taxi

Taxis are one of the best options for travelers caring for their comfort on the way to Kansai International Airport from the city center, but prices are generally high. The journey from Osaka city center to the airport is about 50 minutes by car. At the end of this journey, you need to pay a taxi fare of about 16.000-18.000 Japanese Yen. If you are coming to the airport from Universal Studios, you can still use the taxi or limousine services. The journey from here takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Those arriving from the Nara side pay 25.000 Yen for a 90-minute trip. Those arriving from Shia need to pay more than 50.000 Yen. If you are coming from Kyoto to the airport, you will have to pay an average fare of 32.000 Yen for a 2 hours journey. The trip from Wakayama takes about 40 minutes and the fare would be around 14.000 Yen. If you have a limited budget for transportation, you should definitely talk to the taxi driver before boarding and try to make your choice by learning the average fare you would pay. Only in this way you can complete your journey without any surprises about the price.

Car Rental

You can contact local and international car rental companies in your city and rent a car to travel to Kansai International Airport with the car you rent. In doing so, it is a good idea to choose a company that also has a branch at the airport, as you will not have trouble leaving your vehicle at the airport. If you rent a car from Osaka and other places, the journey is not too short. That's why it's a good idea to have a navigation device along the way to avoid getting lost and loosing time. Passengers wishing to rent a car in the city must also have their international driver’s license and other important travel documents such as passports with them.

Airport Information

At Kansai International Airport, which serves its passengers with two large terminals, there are almost innumerable alternatives, especially of restaurants and cafés where you can taste delicious food from Japanese and world cuisines. At the airport you can eat or shop for food at places like 551HORAI, IL BAR, AZERIA, GANKO, SAINTMARC Cafe, Ryukishin, STARBUCKS COFFEE, TULLY'S COFFEE, Toh-Lee, Hanazato, PRONTO, BLUE SKY, McDonald's and Matsuya. The restaurants, cafés and shops in the airport usually open very early in the morning and offer service until late in the evening. For shopping at Kansai International Airport, there are alternatives such as KOKUMIN, SEVEN ELEVEN, Daily SKY, BALLY BOUTIQUE, FUKUJYUEN, MARUZEN, Pokemon Store, YOROSU, LAWSON and ROLEX. Families traveling with children or infants at an early age can use the children's playgrounds and babysitting rooms provided by the Kansai International Airport to the passengers. You can check your e-mails, complete your urgent business or spend time connecting to the internet thanks to the computers at both terminals of the airport. KIX AIRPORT LOUNGE, which is open 24 hours a day, is waiting for passengers who want to wait for their flight in a comfortable place, looking at the daily newspapers and taking advantage of refreshments while relaxing at the airport.
