Local buses, which are the commonly preferred means of transportation after trolleybus and tramway in Donetsk, also provide transportation service from the city center to the airport. It is not very easy to get to the airport by these buses whose ticket price is 1.50 UAH. Since there are not many bus routes, you have to make more than one transfer to get to the airport. However, if you get on the bus route 73, you can go to the airport without any transfer. You can get on this bus from one of its stops.

Another way to get to Donetsk Airport by bus; get on Putilovskiy bus from Universitetskaya, this travel will last 30-35 minutes. After you have reached Putilovskiy, you can get on the transfer bus going to the airport. The distance between the airport and Putilovskiy is about 5-10 minutes.

Trolleybus

Donetsk trolleybuses offering service to different parts of the city and connected with some of the tramway routes provide more options for the transportation the airport from the city center. You can arrive at the airport in about 10-15 minutes by getting on one of the trolleybus routes 2 or 10. The trolleybus routes offering service for 7 days of the week provide transportation service to many parts of the city and they are also the commonly preferred means of public transportation for travelling to the airport directly. The ticket prices are the same as the buses and trams. The ticket price per person is 1.50 UAH. You can buy your ticket from the driver after you have got on the trolleybus.

Suburban Train

Donetsk suburban trains are more expensive than the other means of public transportation but they are extremely enjoyable in terms of travelling around the city and experience. The ticket prices may vary according to the destination. There are 8 different suburban train routes in the city. By using one of the suburban train routes 107B and 107V you can directly get to Donetsk Airport. The trains offer service for 7 days of the week. These two suburban trains going to the airport follow different routes but their departure and arrival points are the same. Both train routes depart from Donetsk Terminal every 6-15 minutes. You can also go to Vokzalna Square by using a different vehicle and then get on the train going to the airport. Both trains pass through Vokzalna Square.

Taxi

You can see Donetsk taxis all over the city. Taxis don’t generally work under a single company, and some taxi drivers don’t run the taximeter. If the driver of the taxi does not run the taximeter, make sure to bargain about the fare. It would be useful to specify your destination and ask the taxi driver how much you should pay whether he opens the taximeter or not. The best thing about the Donetsk taxis is that the hourly rental fee is very affordable. Renting a taxi for one hour costs about 10 dollars and this amount is very economical and comfortable for your travel. Travelling to the airport from the city center by taxi is about 100-110 Hryvnia. Although the distance is 12 kilometers and the travel will last 10-15 minutes, it is better for you to take the road a bit earlier in order not to miss your plane due to possible traffic.

Car Rental

Car rental services, which are not mainly preferred by the tourists visiting the city, can be more economical especially for those wanting to stay in the city for a longer time. Those who want to visit other cities of Ukraine in addition to Donetsk can rent a car and make their transportation cheaper and more comfortable. The distance between the city center and airport is 12 kilometers but be sure to take the road a bit earlier in case there may be heavy traffic in the morning and evening hours.

Airport Information

Donetsk International Airport, which is located 10 km northwest of the city, was established in 1940s. The airport was destroyed during the Donbass war in 2014 and reestablished in 2015. Turkish Airlines and Pegasus have direct flights to Donetsk Airport. Flight time is about 2 hours.

Donetsk Airport has private taxi and shuttle service carrying passengers to the city center. There are also free Wi-Fi, eating and drinking areas, information desk for visitors, currency exchange office and a few stores to spend time before and after the flights.
