Transportation to Airport from Bangkok City Center

The Suvarnabhumi International Airport opened for international travel in 2006. The city’s first airport, Don Mueang International Airport, is a regional commuter flight hub and low-cost airline hub.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport handles the largest amount of international passengers entering the city, handling over 53 million passengers in 2012. Bangkok is a city with a population of 8 million. Like other South Asian countries, transportation within the city can be chaotic. However, transportation to and from the airport is extremely advanced and comfortable.

Rail

You can take buses 201 and 503 from the Royal Palace, National Museum, and Phara Nakhon, the historic city center, to Phaya Thai Station. From this station you can get to the airport in 17 minutes.

You can also get on the express line at Makkasan Station. Other lines take about 30 minutes to get to the airport.

Airport Services

There are vehicles that depart from Victory Monument, which is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the city, to the airport every 20 minutes. You can get to the airport using luxury minibuses or buses where you need to connect or transfer in between. Minibuses 550 and 551 will take you directly to the airport. The city of Bangkok experiences extremely hot temperatures and these vehicles were designed taking that fact into consideration. These vehicles are all air-conditioned, providing comfortable transportation for tourists.

From the historic city center (Phara Nakhon) take the Nakhon Sawan or Lan Luang bridges and connect to the Sirat Expressway, which has a toll. From here you need to take Motorway 7, which connects directly to the airport. After reaching the airport you can park your vehicle in one of the three parking lots, which have a total car park capacity of 5 thousand vehicles.

Metro

Another way to get to the city center is by metro. It is easy to go to the city center with the metro which is comfortable, fast and economical. The Sofia Metro 1 Line is directly connected to Sofia Airport and allows you to reach many points of the city. If you wish you can change to Metro 2 Line at Serdika metro station. The metro would take you to city center in 18 minutes. The metro is a good option, serving between 5 am and midnight every day of the week.

Bicycle

Sofia Airport is a significant one with regards to bicycles in the world, as the number of cyclists is increasing and use of bicycles is supported. Bicycle paths are available at Sofia Airport, where bicycle parking is available at each terminal.
