About Windhoek
Windhoek, the capital of the African country of Namibia, is also the business and trade center of the country. This city of 330,000 is famous for its spas and hot springs.
Many people speak German in this city that was once the center of a German colony. The Desert Expres train travels up from Windhoek to the town of Swakopmund. The train has a glass-covered terrace and is very famous for allowing passengers to observe exotic desert animals while traveling.
Most of the country is generally with unproductive land, unfortuantely covered with white arid soil due to desertification. The city also has a semi-arid desert climate. Days are hot and dry, with nights being surprisingly cool. The seasons are also the reverse of what people in the Northern Hemisphere, with winter occuring between May and August.
Due to safety concerns, using a taxi is generally the best way to get around the city.
