About Odessa

One of the five largest cities in Ukraine, Odessa is located on the shores of the Black Sea, creating one of the country’s largest ports. In addition to being a port city, Odessa is an important transportation junction. The city has a population of about 1 million. Odessa is the administrative center of the Odessa Oblast and is governed by a city council. Ukrainian and Russian are spoken in the city.

Among the most important historic structures, major attractions and squares are the Opera and Ballet Theater, Potemkin Stairs, Port of Odessa, Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University, Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies, and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. 

Transportation to Odessa City Center from Airport

Odessa is one of the largest cities in Ukraine with a population of over 1 million, which is significant compared to other European cities. With the largest port on the Black Sea, Odessa attracts attention with its historical buildings. The most preferred means of transportation within the city is by bus. Buses, which happen to be very affordable, provide transportation to every part of the city.

Another frequently used form of transportation are the trams. The city’s tram lines cover all the major streets in Odessa and are very popular among tourists. Odessa International Airport is located 7 km southwest of the city center. The airport’s close proximity to the city center makes downtown Odessa very easily accessible.

There are a variety of transportation alternatives passengers can use to get to the city center from the airport, including buses, trams, taxis or rental car for those who want a more comfortable ride. 

Taxi

Taking a taxi from Odessa International Airport to the city center is a convenient method of transportation. However, taxis are quite expensive, especially when compared to other methods of transportation. Taxis are easily accessible at the terminal exits. A taxi to the city center from the airport takes about 30 minutes.

Bus

Another transportation alternative to get to the city center from the airport is by bus. Buses are an important means of public transportation in Odessa. Bus route 117 provides transportation to the city center from Odessa International Airport. The bus provides direct transportation from the airport to the city center. The total trip to the city by bus takes about 1 hour. Buses are a comfortable and affordable transportation method, especially if you’re not in a rush and don’t have excess luggage.

Trolleybus

Taking the trolleybus to the city center from the airport is another transportation alternative. Trolleybus #14 departs from near the bus stop by the terminal complex and provides transportation to the main train station in the city.

The trolleybus operates between the airport and the railway station, making various stops along the way. During the week the trolleybus operates from 6:47 am to 7:07 pm.

Trolleybuses run every 16-17 minutes during rush hour and every 40 minutes during regular hours. The trolleybus from the airport to the train station takes about 36 minutes. Trolleybuses are equipped with electronic signs that display the vehicles full timetable and stops.
