About Geçitkale Airport
Geçitkale Airport is an airport located in Gazimağusa district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The airport, which was used by the Turkish Air Force for a certain period of time for military purpose after the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, offered service to passengers during the period when Ercan International Airport was closed to air traffic. Geçitkale Airport, which was built in 1980 as an alternative airport to Ercan International Airport, was used for commercial flights until the beginning of 2000s. Flights to new cities are planned in order to increase the air traffic of the airport.
Getting to the City Center from Geçitkale Airport
Located within the borders of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Gecitkale Airport is only 2.4 km away to the city centre. Therefore, you can either take a taxi or rent a car to get to the city centre from this airport. Since there is only a short distance (2.4 km) between Gecitkale Airport and the city centre, there is no public transportation option for the passengers. Therefore, you can get to the city centre by taking a taxi in a quick and comfortable way. Due to the fact that Gecitkale Airport is very close to the city centre, renting a car might be a little bit expensive.
