About Cottbus
Cottbus, located in the east of Germany, is an important city of the state of Brandenburg. According to the 2010 data, the city inhabited by about 100,000 people is situated on the Spree River, and is 125 kilometers south-east of Berlin. Cottbus, also known as a university town, also has a large railway junction with large warehouses. At the Cottbus, the cultural center of the Sorbian minority, two languages are understood and written on street signs, and is possible to hear Sorbian spoken by the local inhabitants. It is known that the famous Branitz Park next to the city was built by Prince Hermann von Pückler in 1845. In the city of Cottbus, which is also host to the University of Brandenburg, the university is mainly lecturing on technology and mathematics. The city hosts cultural festivals every year as part of its cultural activities. Besides, there is a football team called FC Energie Cottbus in the city and matches in the city are played at Freundschaft Stadium. There are many lignite plants in the city. The biggest of these are known as Schwarze Pumpe, Boxberg and Janschwalde.
