About Cherkasy Intl. Airport
Cherkasy International Airport, which was built by the Soviet Union government in the city of Cherkasy, succeeded in becoming one of the largest international airports of the country at the beginning of the 1980s. The airport, where international flights stopped in 1992 after the disintegration of the Soviet Union and Ukraine gained its independence, was closed in 2002 after offering service for domestic flights for a while. In 2007, the renovation efforts were initiated since the need for an airport in Cherkasy arose, and in 2009 the airport was reopened to domestic and international flights. The new passenger terminal building has the capacity to welcome 400 passengers per hour while the new cargo terminal building has the capacity to store up to a thousand tons of cargo.
