About Alton Downs
Alton Downs, which is located in South Australia Province of Australia, is a pastoral/rural property used for agriculture and animal husbandry. The property can be leased to private and legal persons for a certain period provided that they serve the purpose. Alton Downs Station is the official name of the area and it is commonly known as Alton Downs. The property located in the northeast of the province is highly competent about organic animal husbandry. Alton Downs, where modern techniques are successfully implemented, has a special location throughout the country especially in cattle breeding. The station includes many distinctive and specific geographical structures such as plains, sand plains, short-distance rivers and flood basins. Warburton River is the most important water source that feeds the region.
Near Alton Downs, there are other similar pastoral/rural properties. The drought seen in the region in 1990s made Alton Downs and the surrounding areas unusable. In 1904, the Australian Government started efforts to rescue the region from drought. And in 1927, the property regained its original characteristic. The property which is under the influence of the desert climate receives a small amount of precipitation throughout the year. Alton Downs Airport is located within the boundaries of Innamincka, a small neighboring town.
