Apart from public transport, taxis also provide fast transportation in the city. The taximeter starts running at 2 euros and charges 1.5 euros per 1 km. Taxis are usually easy to find in the city.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is Germany’s second largest airport after Stuttgart Airport. The airport is located 40 km from Karlsruhe city center. It takes between 35 and 60 minutes to get to the city from the airport, depending on what method of transportation you use. You can get to the city center by bus, train, taxi, or rental car.

Bus

Buses are one of the easiest ways to get to the city center from the airport. The bus network in Karlsruhe is well developed, conveniently connecting the city and its surroundings. Buses that depart from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport travel to Frankfurt Airport but they stop in Karlsruhe. You can also use buses 234 and 285 to get to the city from the airport. However these buses don’t provide direct transportation to the city center; these buses provide transportation to nearby areas where you will have to transfer to another vehicle to reach the city center.

Train

Another transportation alternative to get to the city center from the airport is by train. Trains are a faster and more punctual transportation alternative compared to buses. Deutsche Bahn operates the railway network in Germany. The Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof (HBF) and Ice Train (Intercity Express) are affiliated with this company and provide transportation from the airport to the city center in conjunction with each other.

You can also use the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn tram-train system, which is located at a distance from the airport, to get to the city center from the airport. There are 55 trains that run daily. Trains operate 24 hours a day and take between 15 and 22 minutes to get to the city center.

Ticket prices for the train vary between 11 and 16 euros. Tickets can be purchased at the stations. The last stop for trains S4 and S41 are Karlsruhe. There are also other trains that pass through the city.

Taxi

If you don’t want to take public transportation to get to the city center from the airport then you can take a taxi. Taxis are readily available at the terminal exit. There are 5 different companies that provide service from the airport to the city center. These companies are Taxi AA-S Nier, Taxi Ahmed, Taxi Airpark, Taxi Alex and Taxi Baden Airpark. It usually takes about 20 minutes to get to the city from the airport by cab. This can vary depending on the traffic conditions. A taxi to the city from the airport costs about 30 euros.

Car

Another transportation alternative to get to the city is by car. You can rent a car at the airport. Rental car companies that you can choose from include Enterprise, Buchbinder, and Avis Autovermietung. You can get to the city center by car via the A5 motorway and B36 expressway.
