The Suvarnabhumi International Airport opened for international travel in 2006. The city’s first airport, Don Mueang International Airport, is a regional commuter flight hub and low-cost airline hub.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport handles the largest amount of international passengers entering the city, handling over 53 million passengers in 2012. Bangkok is a city with a population of 8 million. Like other South Asian countries, transportation within the city can be chaotic. However, transportation to and from the airport is extremely advanced and comfortable.

Rail

You can take buses 201 and 503 from the Royal Palace, National Museum, and Phara Nakhon, the historic city center, to Phaya Thai Station. From this station you can get to the airport in 17 minutes.

You can also get on the express line at Makkasan Station. Other lines take about 30 minutes to get to the airport.

Airport Services

There are vehicles that depart from Victory Monument, which is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the city, to the airport every 20 minutes. You can get to the airport using luxury minibuses or buses where you need to connect or transfer in between. Minibuses 550 and 551 will take you directly to the airport. The city of Bangkok experiences extremely hot temperatures and these vehicles were designed taking that fact into consideration. These vehicles are all air-conditioned, providing comfortable transportation for tourists.

From the historic city center (Phara Nakhon) take the Nakhon Sawan or Lan Luang bridges and connect to the Sirat Expressway, which has a toll. From here you need to take Motorway 7, which connects directly to the airport. After reaching the airport you can park your vehicle in one of the three parking lots, which have a total car park capacity of 5 thousand vehicles.

Transportation to Chania City Center from Airport

Chania Intl. - Daskalogiannis Airport

The journey from Chania Airport, which is also known as Daskalogiannis Airport, to the city centre takes approximately 30 minutes. During the operational times of the airport you can rent a car, use taxis, or rent a car to reach Chania centre. 

Taking the bus is the most economic and practical method of reached the city centre from the airport but doesn’t match the comfort and convenience of taking a taxi. Rented cars are especially useful for passengers who have to travel long distances. If you wish to rent a car from Chania Airport, then you must reserve the vehicle before you arrive and get your car by going directly to the rental office in the airport once you land.

Bus

This is the only form of public transport from Chania Airport to the city centre. The bus service starts early in the morning and buses depart at 07:15, 9:15, 10:45, 14:15, 16:50, 18:50, and at 21:15 every day. The journey from Chania Airport to the city centre takes around 30 minutes. You can buy the ticket from inside the bus if you want to take advantage of this inexpensive and relatively comfortable way of transport. 

Taxi

It’s possible to reach Chania quickly by finding a taxi from the arrivals exit. Taxis are useful for families who are carrying luggage or other items. The cost of taxis vary depending on distance but since the airport is a little far from the city centre the price of the journey may be a tad high. Those wishing to save a bit of money can take a bus to the city centre and then take a taxi to their final destination from there to cut costs. Another way to reduce the price of the journey is to try your luck with the drivers to see if they will bargain. You can also make an online reservation so that a vehicle is waiting for you at the terminal exit when you arrive.

Once you have claimed your rental car from the in front of the terminal, you can reach the city centre in 20 or 30 minutes by following road signs to Chania city centre.
